Tobii Eye Tracker 5 for ATS and ETS2

Head and eye tracking for flat-screen driving — and the single best accessory I've used for American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. I approached Tobii about this one, not the other way round.

Three things it does

A small infrared unit sits above or below your monitor and tracks your head and your eyes separately. That gives you three distinct movements, and it's the third one that separates it from a webcam or a TrackIR.

Worth it if

  • You drive ATS or ETS2 on a screen and want to stop mapping look-buttons to a wheel or button box
  • You run an ultrawide — the combination is better than either part suggests
  • You care about realism enough to be running heavy graphics mods already
  • You also race or fly: it works in F1 25, Automobilista 2 and Microsoft Flight Simulator among others

Skip it if

  • You play entirely in a headset — you already have real head movement
  • Your titles have no supported implementation
  • You're saving toward a VR headset and this would delay it

I asked Tobii to sort a discount for the channel and they did. It's applied automatically through the link — there's no code to enter.

On the channel

Not a demo reel — it's in use across every graphics guide on the channel.

Head look, gaze and roll demonstrated on a drive through the Nordic Horizons DLC in a Volvo FH16, with the tracker window on screen so you can see exactly what it's reading.

Used throughout the graphics guides

Every one of these is a full mods and ReShade walkthrough driven with the Eye Tracker 5 running, so you can judge it over a whole video rather than a demo clip.

ATS — Project Next Gen 2.0 and the Simuverse ReShade

The 2.0 rain overhaul and road reflections, the Jon Ruda W900 Highway Killer, plus my own Snowy Moon lighting settings rather than the defaults.

ETS2 — Project Ultimate ReShade and weather

A collaboration with Angus May, including a free sample ReShade, the directional rain that sets Project Ultimate apart, and a clean ReShade reinstall that fixes the effects errors people hit.

ATS 1.58 — Simuverse ReShade and the chrome fix

A free Simuverse ReShade, the tone map and reflection settings that stop Snowy Moon dulling your chrome, and the infinite seat adjustment for a real truck view.

ATS — the full ReShade and mods install

The one to start with. Where mods come from, the DXGI rename that lets ReShade and Snowy Moon coexist, load order, and the config changes that stop the crashes.

Tobii in a headset is a different thing

Worth clearing up, because the name appears twice on this site. The Pimax Dream Air has Tobii eye tracking built into the headset, where it drives dynamic foveated rendering — full resolution where you're looking, less work in your peripheral vision, which buys back performance. Pimax use Tobii because they're the industry leader in eye tracking, which is about the best endorsement the hardware could have. But that's a VR feature and it's already inside the headset.

The Eye Tracker 5 on this page is a separate desk-mounted device for people on screens. If you race in a headset you don't need it. If you race on a monitor it's the closest you'll get to looking around a cockpit naturally.

Not sure which side of that line you're on? The Quest 3 vs Dream Air comparison lays out what moving to VR actually costs and gains.

Setting it up

Out of the box it's genuinely plug and play. Mount it above or below the monitor, plug it into a USB port, and the software installs itself when the PC boots. Calibration is a quick routine where you follow a point around the screen, and after that you just open or close the app depending on whether you want it running.

Line of sight matters less than you'd expect. Mine sits under an ultrawide with a MOZA wheel and a CM dash partly in the way, and it still tracks cleanly.

The per-game tuning happens in the game itself. In ETS2 it's at the bottom of the controls menu — an Eye Tracker 5 box with a configure option, where you set sensitivity for each axis and turn on features like roll. Sensitivity is personal, so expect to spend a few minutes finding yours.
